PSG: Robert Pires gives reason why Messi is struggling at club

Former Arsenal star, Robert Pires, has revealed why Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi is struggling at the club.

Messi joined PSG from Barcelona on a free transfer last summer after the LaLiga giants failed to renew his contract.

The seven-times Ballon d’ Or winner has not really impressed at PSG.

The Argentina captain was recently booed by PSG fans after their elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid.

But Pires believes Messi is struggling at PSG because the 34-year-old is adapting to a change in the environment, which he claimed is tough for anyone and the forward is no exception.

Speaking on LiveScore, Pires said: “Every country has a specific way of playing its football. That is why sometimes for a manager or a player, the time to adapt can be longer.

“Can you imagine we talk about Lionel Messi, one of the best players in the world and look at what happened with his move to PSG in France. I repeat, it takes time to adapt. Even for Messi it has been difficult because Ligue 1 is more physical than LaLiga.”
