A lawyer, Festus Ogun, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Emefiele, who is in his second term as the country's top banker, has entered the presidential contest for 2023. The CBN governor paid N100 million for the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms. Ogun stated in a statement on Friday that the move was illegal, morally abhorrent, and degrades whatever institutions remain in Nigeria. The lawyer backed up his demand for Emefiele's dismissal by citing Section 9 of the CBN Act of 2007. It states: “The governor and deputy governors shall devote the whole of their time to the service of the bank, and while holding office, shall not engage in any full or part-time employment or vocation, whether remunerated or not.” Politics is a vocation, according to Ogun, and Emefiele is barred from participating in party politics by law. Citizens Network for Peace and Development has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan has yet to make his decision on the 2023 presidential election known because he is still consulting. 2023: Makinde summons PDP aspirants over party’s primary

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has summoned all aspirants jostling to contest for various political positions in 2023. They were all asked to report to a meeting scheduled to hold at the Oyo State Government House. Meanwhile, the governor summoned the aspirants due to some disagreements that have characterised the  forthcoming primary of the party.  It was gathered that leaders and aspirants of the party in some constituencies are yet to agree on the candidates to flag the party’s flag due to some  internal wrangling. Makinde has now mandated all the aspirants to attend a meeting where the issues would be resolved. The meeting is expected to commence at 11.am today (Monday). Some of the aspirants said that they would attend the meeting. They described the meeting as a bold step aimed at resolving all the pending issues ahead of 2023.
