Lukaku returned to Chelsea from Inter Milan for a club-record £98 million in the summer of 2021.
The former Manchester United star initially hit the ground running at Chelsea, scoring four goals in his first four appearances under manager Thomas Tuchel.
However, his performances since then have hit the rock and Courtois, an international teammate with Lukaku, believes it is strange that his fellow compatriot has not been playing so much lately for the Blues.
Speaking before Chelsea’s Champions League last-8 first-leg tie against Real Madrid on Wednesday night, Courtois told Chelsea’s official website: “Romelu is a really great striker. It is a bit strange to see him not play so much lately, but he’s a guy with enormous quality.
"He finds the goal really easily. Obviously, there are other great strikers at Chelsea so I understand it is not always easy and if the team keeps winning, the manager keeps playing the same players. But I am sure he will go through it.
“Sometimes, you just need a little adaptation. I had the same in Madrid, the first year was not easy.”
